Sample Gear List for the Barriers

This is a basic gear list which can be modified to suit individual needs. For example, if you're kayaking with limited space, many of these items will become optional. If you have a charter boat for transportation, then your choices will not be as limited.

 

Shelter

tent, w/ noseeum and bug proof screening

ground cloth

stakes, suitable for sand

extra tarp for tent; to cover tent to protect from sand if in windy conditions

sleeping pad or air mattress w/ manual or battery pump

sleeping bag

pillow, inflatable works well and saves space

folding chair

 

Shade

beach umbrella

prefabricated shade structure, or

tarp for shade (Find driftwood 8' to 10' long. Dig holes 1' to 2' deep to stand driftwood vertically. Use tarp and rope to make shade. Dead man anchors will keep everything upright.

small garden trowel or shovel for digging shade pole and dead man anchor holes

extra rope or cord

 

Cooking Equipment

Match the cooking equipment to the menu. It is possible to eat preprepared food items that do not require cooking to save the weight and bulk of cooking equipment and supplies.
